Calculation Methodology & Sourced Constants
Complete transparency is our cornerstone. Below is the comprehensive register of mathematical constants, manufacturer data sources, and rounding rules utilized across all 10 tools.
1. Non-Negotiable Rounding Rule
Always Round UP: In real-world construction, purchasing a fraction of a bag, box, sheet, or gallon is impossible. All buyable material quantities are rounded strictly UP to the next whole purchasable integer (using Math.ceil). Volumes in cubic feet and cubic yards are displayed to two decimal places.
2. Sourced Constants Reference Register
| Material | Nominal Unit Yield | Density / Coverage Factor | Primary Data Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Concrete (80 lb) | 0.60 cu ft / bag | 1 yd³ = 45 bags (60 lb) / 33.75 bags (80 lb) | Quikrete & Sakrete Technical Data Sheets |
| Concrete (60 lb) | 0.45 cu ft / bag | 1 yd³ = 27 cu ft | Quikrete & Sakrete Technical Data Sheets |
| Concrete (40 lb) | 0.30 cu ft / bag | 1 yd³ = 90 bags (40 lb) | Quikrete Technical Data Sheets |
| Crushed Stone Gravel | — | 1.4 tons / cu yd (approx 2,800 lbs/yd³) | National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) |
| Landscaping Mulch | 2.0 cu ft / bag | 1 yd³ covers 108 sq ft @ 3 in depth | National Mulch & Soil Council Standard |
| Concrete Pavers | 1.0 sq ft / 12×12 in unit | 4 in base gravel (1.4 tons/yd³) + 1 in bedding sand (volumetric yd³) | Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) |
| Drywall Sheets | 32 sq ft / 4×8 ft sheet | 48 sq ft / 4×12 ft sheet | Gypsum Association (GA-216 Standards) |

Results generated by our tools are mathematical estimates for material acquisition and budget planning. They do not constitute formal architectural, civil engineering, or building code compliance certifications. Always consult local municipal building departments and licensed contractors for load-bearing structures.
